The SMITH INNERHAND W.B. is a floating pencil bait developed to mass-produce one of the Heddon-style lures’ signature designs in plastic while recreating the action of the wood model. Featuring a distinctive body shape and weight balance also known as the “Hyotan” (“gourd”) design, it was developed through testing multiple prototypes with variations in molded shape, weight placement, and size. Changes in action caused by painting were also evaluated before the lure was finalized as a mass-produced ABS model.

It features excellent water engagement and sliding performance, responds readily to rod input, and allows anglers to produce a walking action with relative ease. The slide width can be adjusted by varying the strength of the retrieve, while a relaxed, water-laden walking action is also possible, allowing the lure’s movement to be varied through the angler’s manipulation. It is primarily used as a pencil bait worked from side to side with rod action, allowing the angler to switch between a tight walk with minimal forward travel and a wide, sweeping slide according to conditions. It is a 92 mm, 14 g floating model equipped with a No. 5 hook on the belly and a No. 6 hook on the tail.
