SMITH’s Gary Yamamoto Imo Grub 30 is not simply a conventional grub with the tail removed; it was designed to enhance the performance of an Imo Grub. With an intentionally rear-weighted design to improve its sliding fall and castability, it sinks with a sideways gliding action during the fall. The body is tapered within a range that does not compromise hook-setting performance when rigged with an offset hook. In addition, the head, where force is more likely to concentrate during casting, has a larger diameter to ensure strength and help reduce tearing.

At just 30 mm in length and approximately 1.3 g in weight, this is the smallest size and is suited to presentations that take advantage of its subtle, no-action appeal. Around structures such as overhanging trees, docks, and moored boats, the basic technique is to let it fall while keeping the line neither taut nor slack, guiding it into the targeted area. After it reaches the bottom, an ultra-slow drag or simply leaving it stationary can also be effective. It can be used with a weightless rig, as well as a split-shot rig or a drop-shot rig. A #4 offset hook or a small trout hook is recommended.
