JACKALL’s i SHAD CLIO is designed to minimize unnecessary movement during i-shaped fishing and help maintain a consistent, straight-line action. Based on the experience and expertise of i-shaped game specialist Seiji Kato, it incorporates the concept of controlling action irregularities through the lure’s own design, rather than relying too heavily on delicate hook setup or adjustments to retrieve speed.
A head and stabilizer are built into the front section of the body, making it easier to establish a consistent reference point when setting the hook while also stabilizing the lure’s posture during the retrieve. The cross-shaped tail regulates water flow, and its parachute effect, created by a moderate amount of resistance, contributes to action stability. In addition, the two-layer construction combines materials with different specific gravities to lower the center of gravity and suppress irregular movement. Consideration was also given to the silhouette viewed from below by bass: the back and belly feature a smooth slick finish, while the sides are ribbed.
The basic rig is weightless, allowing the lure to move naturally just below the surface on a steady retrieve. It is also recommended to operate the lure with the rod held slightly high and a small amount of slack in the line, preventing wind or current from pulling the line and affecting the lure. As a general guide, the 3.5-inch model is suited to size #6–#4 mosquito hooks or size #2–#1 offset hooks, while the 4.1-inch model is suited to size #4–#3 mosquito hooks or size #1–#1/0 offset hooks.
