SHIMANO’s POISON ULTIMA is a flagship spinning rod developed for vertical presentations using advanced live sonar, allowing anglers to switch between stopping the lure to trigger a bite and enticing fish with a dead-slow presentation using a single rod. The 256/510XUL-S features a grip-jointed two-piece construction and a length-switch design with two interchangeable solid tips. The shorter 5-foot 6-inch tip features a high-rebound, high-response design that minimizes movement while the lure is held in place, making it easier to transmit subtle bites to the angler’s hand and supporting hook-setting-oriented techniques.

The semi-long 5-foot 10-inch tip features a fast taper and long solid construction. When slowly winding the lure at a dead-slow retrieve or manipulating the tip to present the lure vertically, it is designed to follow the light pecking bites that occur under line tension, emphasizing the ability to load up and keep fish pinned. The blank incorporates Tough Tech Infinity and Hi-Response Solid technology, combined with a full complement of X Guides, a bridge-like CI4+ reel seat, and an open-end design. This model allows anglers to accurately deliver the lure to fish confirmed on live sonar and switch between holding the lure stationary, applying subtle shakes, and presenting it at a dead-slow pace according to the conditions by changing the tip.
