Cotton Cordell Boy Howdy

Cotton Cordell’s Boy Howdy is a surface-fishing prop bait designed to imitate an injured and weakened baitfish. Its slender body is equipped with front and rear props, which churn the water at the surface while producing vibrations and sound like a fleeing baitfish. This model features a 4.5-inch, 3/8-ounce body fitted with #6 hooks and is designed to search just below the surface as a topwater lure.

It can be worked with strong rod movements or retrieves for an aggressive presentation, or with restrained movements that keep it in a limited area. When active fish are chasing bait near the surface, it can be worked at a brisk pace; after the fish sink, gentle inputs can be used to disturb the surface and encourage them to rise again. It is also well suited to targeting schooling fish near the surface, covering everything from searching broad areas to making subtle, pinpoint presentations. The Boy Howdy’s signature front and rear props, combined with its long body, produce a variety of surface actions depending not only on the retrieve speed but also on the strength of the angler’s input.
