Gary Yamamoto Legworm

Gary Yamamoto’s LEG WORM is a shad-tail worm designed to recreate the movement of a weakened baitfish with subtle vibrations that closely resemble those of live bait. Its name comes from its distinctive, leg-like silhouette, which combines a ribbed body with a weighty shad tail. The body features different rib patterns lengthwise and crosswise. When the tail catches water, it produces a strong action and displaces water, while the tail’s weight allows the bait to come to a quick stop when the retrieve is paused. The 2.5-inch model is offered as an easy-to-handle size for fishing fields throughout Japan.

It is primarily suited to drop-shot rigs, light Carolina rigs, and jigheads. For the 2.5-inch model, the manufacturer recommends setups using a #3 offset hook or a masu-bari hook. It is well suited to presentations that combine tail vibration and pauses, such as shaking or moving the bait near the bottom and allowing it to sit after the fall. The lineup also includes a 2.9-inch model, which was redesigned not simply as a larger size, but with the intention of maintaining the Leg Worm’s distinctive action after the size change.
