Gary Yamamoto Imo

Gary Yamamoto’s Imo is a tail-less soft bait based on the concept of the original Imo Grub, which is used by removing the tail from a single-tail grub. Its simple, tail-less body keeps the profile compact while combining a ribbed body with a high specific gravity, making it easy to cast even weightless and suitable for presentations on the fall and along the bottom.

The standard setup is a weightless rig with the hook inserted into the body, worked with the fall after landing, a pause after reaching the bottom, or a light shake. Smaller sizes such as the Imo 30 are also easy to use with a jig head rig or light Carolina rig. With a jig head, it can be swum, while with a Carolina rig, it can be worked with a curved fall, followed by a free fall, and then a pause after the sinker reaches the bottom. Its action can also be changed by adjusting the hook position or modifying the bait, such as cutting the body to use it like a cut-tail worm or inserting rubber strands to create a falling presentation. Despite its simple appearance, this model can be used for a range of presentations, including falling, swimming, and bottom-oriented techniques.
