IMAKATSU’s Slam Dog Monster is a 14.5 cm, 40 g big pencil bait developed to target large bass quickly from the surface across expansive fishing grounds. Building on the proven Amazon Pencil lineage established at Lake Ikehara Dam, it is designed to combine effortless handling during extended, continuous retrieves with powerful water displacement.
Inside the body is a mechanism that produces the high-pitched metallic clacker sound emphasized during development, while its powerful dog-walking action, accompanied by strong water displacement, moves a large volume of surface water. When worked continuously at high speed from splashdown to the boat, its metallic sound and splashes imitate a fleeing hasu or ayu, attracting fish across a wide area. Conversely, during slow skating with a pause-and-go retrieve that minimizes forward movement, the rattle chamber responds even to subtle movements, allowing the lure to be used to call fish up from the midwater with a distinct sound. The officially recommended setup pairs a baitcasting rod around 7 feet in length with an MH to H action, approximately 14 lb fluorocarbon line, or 18–20 lb low-stretch nylon line.
