IMAKATSU’s Finesse Frog is a 3.5-inch-class hollow-body frog designed to combine the cover-fishing performance expected of a frog with a subtle presentation that can be worked over short distances. The compact body pairs easily with a 3/0 wide-gap offset hook, and positioning the hook point in the recessed groove along the back creates a setup that is easy to work through cover. The interior features two separate air chambers, one on each side, making them less likely to be damaged when rigging the hook and helping prevent water from entering. When a fish bites, the body is designed to collapse firmly, minimizing interference with the hookset.
The splayed front legs catch water to create subtle ripples while limiting forward movement, while the flat thigh sections of the rear legs also catch water, producing an action with pronounced leg movement. The basic retrieve consists of moving the frog with two or three short twitches, imagining a swimming frog, followed by a pause, then repeating the sequence. Since bites are said to occur more readily during the pause, it is important not to keep the lure moving continuously and to allow sufficient time for it to stop. Designed for frog-friendly areas such as the edges of vegetation, floating cover, floating debris, bushes, bamboo, inlets, and rock banks, it is versatile enough for pitching into cover, dropping the lure along the bank, and sight-fishing presentations. The hook should be rigged between the two air chambers, and the manufacturer officially recommends a 3/0 wide-gap offset hook.
